I was perusing the cheese section at the Good Food Store the other day hoping they had finally ordered Cheezly or Daiya or..you get the picture. I usually leave disappointed by the fact that they only carry Follow Your Heart and a couple Galaxy kinds, which I find disgusting. But, wait….what the heck is this? I snatched up a container called “We Can’t Say It’s Cheese!”. Intrigued, I grabbed a container of the cheddar spread and hickory cheddar spread. Once we got home, I opened the hickory container immediately. Dipped some bread into it and popped it into my mouth. Not going to lie, I was expecting to spit it back out. However, it was DELICIOUS. The next few days we made grilled cheese and macaroni several times. I am so enamored with this product! When I went on the company’s website, I was astonished. WTF, this is made in MONTANA? Whoa. That’s right, Montana has finally contributed something to the vegan world!
Wayfare Foods makes a cheddar and hickory cheese spread and dip, along with sour cream. If you are hoping this is the type of cheese that is going to get all fatty, greasy and stretchy, don’t get your hopes up. It reminds me of spray cheese, Velveeta and highly processed Kraft American Singles, in the best way. The base ingredient is oatmeal, coconut oil and various spices, flavorings. It is amazing for grilled cheese, macaroni, eating out of the container, on breakfast burritos….mmmmmmmmm good.
THE CONTEST: The winner will get two tubs of WayFare cheese spread: cheddar and hickory. This contest is limited to the US because I’m not sure how well a cold pack would travel international.
There are three way to enter the contest (if you do all three you get entered three times, two times twice..you get the picture)
1. Create something that shows how much you love cheese: a youtube video, photo, recipe, etc etc…..than post a link in the comments section
2. Link to the contest on your blog and then leave a comment saying you did so
3. Add this blog to you blog roll then leave a comment letting me know
FOR NON-BLOGGERS ONLY: since you can’t really do 2 or 3, instead do the following: 2) leave a comment saying what your favorite vegan cheese brand is. 3) What kind of non-vegan cheese do you miss the most?
The winner will be announced Friday, October 9th.
Note: I will be holding 4 contests during veganmofo. Check in every Sunday for the contest and every Friday for the winning announcement. The rest of the contests will be open to everyone worldwide.

I don’t want to enter the contest, but I did want to thank you for telling us about this new “cheese”. I wonder if they sell it outside of Montana.

Thank you so much for telling me! I’d love to win some more. hehe
1. evidence of how much I love cheeze: my 765 pictures of cheezy things ( can be seen in my facebook food photos-some in pasta and vegetables)
2. My favorite brand is now this Wayfare one! Love it. I also really like Tofutti cheddar slices, but GFS doesn’t carry those anymore.
3. I miss good sliceable cheese, and good boxed mac and cheese.

I’m all about the Daiya. They’ve got it at all the SoCal Whole Foods around here, so I consider myself lucky

The one cheese thing I miss the most has to be goat cheese- although I’ve heard the Vegetarian Times recipe for cashew goat cheese is pretty darn good!

Entering the contest!
1. I haven’t tried that many vegan cheeses yet – they’re darned expensive in NYC! – but Vegan Gourmet mozzarella is my favorite. Flatbread pizzas with tomato, onion, spinach, & thou (if thou = Vegan Gourmet)? Divine.
2. But sometimes I deeply, darkly desire aged gouda. The really nice kind, with the pockets of salt crystals inside. Luckily, Greek olives and stuffed grape leaves meets that craving.

Interesetingly enough, I have been able to find this in Florida. I bouught some around Labor Day to eat on chips. And you are correct, it is quite good. I haven’t really tried things with it yet, since I wasn’t sure it would melt (the cheddar spread). I will have to now try it as a grilled cheese and see how it works, since it is still sitting in my refrig. Have you seen the sour cream? That I would really like to try.

I haven’t tried their cheeses, but I see they offer a Mexi style dip. Here’s what I would do because I SO miss nachos …
Start with a base of blue corn chips, add a mishmash of black beans, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, jalapenos, and a fresh salsa to go along with this.
It’s making me hungry for nachos already … sigh. I might also add this to my lentil taco recipe.

The best vegan cheese brand I have tried is Play Food, but I only got to try it once when I found it while out of town.

This looks so good! I’ve tried pretty much all the vegan cheeses that exist over the years, and I keep coming back to FYH Monterey Jack because I really like the taste, it melts well on pizza, and I can find it easily pretty much everywhere. I really love Cheezly, but it’s not so easy to get in the US.
